Where We've Put Play Back Into Sports
Steve and Kerry Boyle
In 2006, our 9-year-old daughter Alannah was told that trying other sports was not an option if she wanted to play for her local soccer travel team. As parents, educators, and coaches, we knew that playing only one sport did not make sense physically, socially, or emotionally, not just for our daughter but for all kids. Life’s 2 Short 4 Just 1 Sport™ became our inspiration to launch what was then, just a one week sport sampling camp, but what most now refer to simply as, 2-4-1.
We knew we were on to something that resonated with many families because that first camp quickly increased in numbers from one location in Connecticut to multiple locations serving thousands of kids globally. Despite our steady growth, we wanted to give back to our community in a greater way.
It was a natural decision to extend our sport sampling programs to underserved communities in line with where we first began our teaching and coaching careers. In 2021, we did just that. We formed 2-4-1 CARE and expanded the 2-4-1 footprint to communities in need and became that spot where Sport and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) meet. We further developed and integrated TOP Self Sports (TOP stands for "Thinking On Purpose") more holistically as we have always believed that a sports setting is the best classroom for teaching kids how to be better, happier, healthier individuals.
2-4-1 has come a long way in over a decade. We invite you to join us in helping to give more kids the opportunity to be their best selves, create confidence, friendships, and joy for life!
