The 2-4-1 Active City Hartford camp is a comprehensive Physical Literacy Development Program for students entering Grades 3-8. We blend the traditional 2-4-1 Sports camp model of sport sampling with TOP Self™ social emotional learning and character skill development.
We follow the definition put forth by the National Association of Physical Literacy (NAPL USA) which is “The Ability, Balance, Confidence, Desire and Explorative Nature to be Active for Life.
2-4-1 Sports puts play back into sports! At 2-4-1 Active City Hartford, children have the opportunity to sample multiple sports and learn for themselves how playing one sport increases their ability and confidence in another. While many specialty camps are filled with laps, lines and lectures – at
2-4-1 we focus on getting kids moving and playing all day. All attendees play at least 3 sports each day and we encourage all campers to try at least one sport they’ve never tried before. “Life’s 2 Short 4 Just 1 Sport” is more than a tagline for us — it’s a cultural shift that drives our programs to help families recognize that a lifelong love of activity starts with a diverse, play-filled childhood.
At this camp, no special equipment is required as it will be provided by our staff. Kids just need to come ready to play each day!
Our Active City Hartford program is free for Hartford kids going into grades 3-8.
Funding is made possible through the generous support of Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, Active City and 2-4-1.
Please consider making a donation so we can expand our work to serve even more kids in our community.
A typical day at 2-4-1 Active City Hartford, campers will rotate through a variety of different sports each day!
No need to worry about bringing any specific sports equipment. We just ask that kids wear shorts, t-shirts, and sneakers. And bring a distinct and clearly marked water bottle if possible.
